We are cooperating on development of the European-wide Marine Litter Assessment, to be published in 2022 by EEA, with particular focus on plastics, based on core indicators of sources, pathways and state of plastic pollution.
The specific objectives are related to the process of developing the different chapters of the assessment (including the 2020 deliverable) and include:
1. Fine-tune scope, approach and outline of assessment though consultation with key experts;
2. Collect all data necessary to be used in the assessment: socio-economic indicators and plastic production (drivers); plastic waste generation and management indictors (pressures, responses); riverine plastic indicators (pressure/state); plastic in coastal and marine environments (state).
3. Apply the analytical methodologies to the different sub-thematic compartments (“land”, “rivers”, “coast & sea”).
4. Build the assessment and elaborate the narrative.
