The project requested by the European Commission's Directorate-General for the Environment (DG ENV) and performed by Milieu ltd. and TC Vode in accordance with the contract between MIllieu and the EC, number 070201/2017/760013 / SFRA / ENV.C.2. (Framework Agreement ENV.C.2 / 2016 / FRA / 0032 of 4 July 2017 between Milieu and the European Commission).
Through the project a common understanding of provisions of the Bathing Water Directive (2006/7/EC) was developed since the practice of monitoring, reporting and assessment proved differences in the interpretation and implementation by the EU Member States. With this in mind, the project identified main issues of the Directive implementation, collected evidence and different practices through Member States, and proposed the best practice in line with provisions. The work presents an important contribution to the upcoming review of the Directive in 2020-2021.
