State of waters and human impacts on aquatic ecosystems

State of waters and human impacts on aquatic ecosystems

We assess the quality of European bathing waters, analyse physico-chemical parameters in rivers, look for important links between the ecological status of European rivers and human pressures, and analyse changes in floodplains. We process data on waterflow and river sediments. We analyse water use.

  • Content knowledge on the quality and quantity of water resources, supported by data.
  • Knowledge on the EU concepts on collection, management, and analysis of the environmental data.
  • Skills of assessing the state of and pressures on waters.
  • Development of environmental indicators (water topic).
Environmental information systems and GIS

Environmental information systems and GIS

We organise and process attribute and spatial data on waters and river basins. We work throughout Europe (European Union and Western Balkans) and its eastern neighbourhood (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine).

  • Development of dataflows for environmental data (data dictionaries, delivery and harvesting protocols, data QA/QC, user support).
  • Planning and implementation of information systems (databases, data processing and visualisation tools).
  • Capacity building on the EU dataflows and information systems.
Hydrological studies and development of water resources

Hydrological studies and development of water resources

We analyse probability of floods and droughts in Slovenia, develop hydrological studies and use hydraulic models for flood hazard mapping. We produce strategic and conceptual projects for the development of water resources, sustainable water management, and wetland protection. We use hydrological, hydraulic and information sciences in research, analysis, consulting and development projects.
