Dataharvest – The European Investigative Journalism Conference is a data-journalism oriented event, a meeting point where networks are established and nurtured, data and documents shared, cross-border projects conceived and teams established. The 2022 conference took place on 19-22 May in Mechelen, Belgium, attended by more than 500 participants.
Our experts were invited to speak on the European water data. Gašper Šubelj gave an insight into data collected by the Eionet Member States and consolidated by the EU institutions. While the EU datasets are - in general - available for free use, it is in best interest of the European citizens that these are further processed, interpreted, and discussed by various users, including the public. Data journalism is an important mean of delivering the interpreted data to the public, thus raising conscience on water issues, the related policies, and their weakpoints to be addressed.
