Since June, we are developing specific tasks for the upcoming year of the European Topic Centre on Biodiversity and Ecosystems (ETC BE). The tasks are based on the EEA-Eionet Strategy 2021-2030. The next year's tasks are both an upgrade of our on-going work as well as conception of new tasks in line with emerging environmental policies of the EU, such as the Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, the Farm to Fork Strategy, and the Zero Pollution Action Plan. With experts of the European Environment Agency and ETC BE experts from 14 countries we will focus on the tasks related to the Water Industry directives, the collection and analysis of data on the European seas and freshwaters, and the technical implementation to present these topics to the European public, experts, and policy-makers.
Our main specific tasks in 2025 are going to evolve around the collection and analysis of the European bathing water quality data; the development of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive data flow within Eionet; co-editorship of content on the Environmental Information Systems for Europe (BISE, WISE); and updates to the indicators on pesticides, nutrients, and water resources in Europe.
