The project involved collecting, processing, and interpreting the attribute and georeferenced data from various institutional sources of marine-related data. The goal was to provide the knowledge base on pressures on the marine environment, exerted by the maritime transport sector, to allow distance-to-target analysis. This knowledge base was ultimately used to develop the content of the European Maritime Transport Environmental Report 2.0 (EMTER 2.0).
Our role was to investigate and develop the data in the topic of marine litter originating from shipping and fisheries; non-indigenous species introduced by marine transport; physical disturbance of seabed; and risk of collision with marine species.
The resulting report was published in 2025 jointly by the European Environment Agency (EEA) and European Marine Safety Agency (EMSA): European Maritime Transport Environmental Report 2025.
